ABOUT CCDC DESIGN ASSISTANCE EDUCATION SPARK! CALENDAR RESOURCES NEIGHBORHOODS CITYSPACE

In April 2008, CCDC kicked off SPARK!, a community-wide residential energy efficiency program. The primary objectives of SPARK! are to:
  • Serve as a go-to resource on energy efficiency for Charlottesville citizens, government, organizations and businesses and specifically ensure that Charlottesville’s low income population is reached
  • Develop a model program with proven results that can be replicated in other Virginia municipalities
  • Actively participate in the development of state legislation around energy efficiency

As part of Spark!, CCDC will sponsor a year-long home energy performance pilot program providing audits and cost effective renovations for 25 low-income Charlottesville households. CCDC will use the results of this program to demonstrate the return on investment for specific energy efficiency measures and the potential for cost and energy savings at the household and community level, establishing a strong basis for working with the City to develop sustained funding for a long-term sustainable energy program.

Spark! will also educate homeowners, renters, builders, real estate professionals and policy makers on the benefits of energy efficient buildings and place-specific, cost-effective techniques for achieving energy efficiency through a series of workshops, events and extensive community outreach.
