CCDC hosts monthly
exhibits in its Downtown Mall gallery space in order to provide a venue for
education and discussion of issues concerning design and development with an
emphasis on affordable housing, sustainability and community development. Each
exhibit opens on the First Friday of the month, in conjunction with the
traditional First Fridays openings at many downtown Charlottesville art
galleries. All CCDC monthly exhibits and First Fridays opening receptions are
free and open to the public.

January 2007 - Forest Hills Park Forest Hills
Park seems to be a place frozen in time, and remains virtually
unchanged since it opened in the 1950s. Charlottesville Parks and
Recreation Department is allocating funds to revitalize the park, and
has engaged CCDC to facilitate a community design process with people
who live around and use the park. >>read more
February 2007 - The Learning Barge Students from the University of Virginia School of Architecture exhibited their research and designs for The Learning Barge - an innovative, floating environmental education field station completely powered by wind and solar power. In partnership with the Elizabeth River Project and under the guidance of Architecture Professor Phoebe Crisman, the Learning Barge's integrated curriculum will teach K-12 students about ongoing restoration efforts on the Elizabeth River - the most polluted tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.
